Community cat TNR (Trap, Spay/Neuter, Return)
Outdoor cats have existed alongside humans for 10,000 years. Feral cats are not socialized to people. However, feral kittens can be adopted.
TNR reduces overpopulation of community cats over time. Catch and kill doesn’t work due to the vacuum effect. TNR improves lives, stabilizes colonies, and is humane and cost effective.
TNR is currently under attack in Hillsborough County! See the Breaking News page for more information.

Gulf Shore Animal League is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of stray and feral cats in our community. In addition to our work with hundreds of individuals, we have also forged alliances with numerous businesses to control and protect the feral cat population. The Sandbar Restaurant, Quality Plumbing, Bray Roofing, and others are currently partnering with us to curb (and to one day eliminate) the unnecessary practice of euthanasia of healthy cats and kittens as a method of population control. Our program consists of trapping the cats, vetting them for health screening, spaying or neutering the cats, adminstering a rabies vaccine, tipping the left ear so that it can be readily identified, microchipping and returning the cats to the colony. The volunteer caretakers provide food and water for the colony and oversee their continuing care. The end result is a healthy, managed cat colony that no longer produces kittens or the unwanted mating and territorial behaviors.- Humanitarians of Florida, Inc.
